"Let us preserve the cultural and natural heritage of the Curonian Spit together ": the project "Ecotour4Natur" is being implemented at IKBFU"

Researchers of IKBFU and Klaipeda University (Lithuania) will conduct a large-scale study of the Baltic Sea coast. In particular, the coastline, the dynamics of changes in the coastline, economic and recreational potential will be studied. This will become possible thanks to the Ecotour4Natur project, which is being implemented within the framework of the Russia-Lithuania Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2014–2020. The project partners are: Kaliningrad Charitable Fund for the Preservation and Development of the National Park "Curonian Spit" (Russia) and two Lithuanian organizations: Klaipeda University and Administration of Seaside Regional Park.
IKBFU is the main partner in the project. Within the project, the Resource Centers for the restoration and adaptation of historical and natural heritage on the both sides of the border will be created, and a new exhibition “Feathered world of the Baltic” in the village of Rybachiy of the Curonian Spit National Park will be organized. An educational programme will be developed; a tutorial “Preservation of the natural landscape of the Baltic cost and its use for eco-tourism purposes” and an eco-route “The geological and geomorphological record of the Baltic Sea” will be worked out.
Cooperation between universities and nature parks will create a solid basis for solving common problems for the cross-border region, including degradation and shrinking of beaches, excessive traffic load on the coastal zone, tourist pollution, tourist routes overloading, the lack of new tourism opportunities in natural parks that are relevant for young people, etc.

The project is being implemented under the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Lithuania-Russia 2014-2020. The budget of the project is 299 823,04 EUR, out of which 224 741,04 EUR will be financed by the EU and 45 099,69 EUR will be financed by the RF , the duration – 24 months.
